Spaghetti with Bacon and Prawns by Annabel Langbein

20180108_184241It has been a long time since I have cooked a decent, inspired meal, and an even longer time since I have cooked an Annabel Langbein recipe. I haven’t cooked a lot of her recipes out of my Simple Pleasures cookbook of hers and I was really excited to cook this one. I wrote my grocery list (from a website version of the recipe) then got home and searched the index of my cookbook. To my dismay the recipe wasn’t listed against the recipes in her Simple Pleasures cookbook, but is instead in her Free Range Life cookbook that I do not own.

Despite not being able to cook out of one of my many cookbooks, I still really enjoyed this meal. What I loved about cooking this meal was that it took little preparation time, and was quick to cook. I had my episode of The Crown all set up on my laptop to go as I cooked my way through this recipe. Even with a tv episode playing and my attention often diverted from the cooking, I still managed to get this meal completed before the end of the episode, 45 minutes later. Recipes like this, are gold to me. It is hard to find a recipe by a celebrity chef that you can prepare and cook and have on the table in an hour.

One thing to realise with this recipe is that there are no vegetables. I don’t think lemon zest or a chilli counts as a vegetable, so you will need to cook something alongside this for dinner. Maybe this is how you save time preparing the recipe. All of this dish is prepared on the stovetop, so it may be a good idea to prepare something that you can throw in the oven, or do microwave steamed vegetables. As we have zucchini coming out our ears, I made some chilli zucchini rounds to go with the meal.

This meal is delicious and I do really recommend making it, maybe one week where prawns are on sale at your local supermarket. While it is not an overly cheap meal with the bacon and prawns, it is delicious, and it does make you feel like you are treating yourself. Sit down with a bowl of this comforting prawn pasta, a glass of cold white wine, put your feet up and relax.

If you try this let me know what you think, and how it turned out for you! If you cook a side dish alongside the prawn pasta let me know as I will definitely be cooking this meal again in the future!

Disclaimer: When I review recipes on my site that are not mine I always link through to an online version of the recipe, as it is not mine to claim originality or credit for. I also do not believe that changing one ingredient, or one measure of an ingredient makes it your recipe.
